Mark Tepfer, Ph.D.
is Scientific Coordinator of the ICGEB
Biosafety Outstation at Ca' Tron

The International Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB)
is an international research organization funded by its member states.
Its two primary research centers are located in Trieste, Italy,
and New Delhi, India. Thanks to funding from the Fondazione Cassamarca,
the ICGEB has recently established an outstation entirely devoted to
research and training in GMO biosafety, which is located at Ca' Tron,
near Venice, Italy.

Mark Tepfer received a Ph.D. from the University of Washington in 1978,
after which he worked a the university of British Columbia from 1978 to 1982.
Prior to joining ICGEB in January 2005, Mark Tepfer was a senior scientist
at the Cell Biology Laboratory at INRA-Versailles (France) from 1982 through
2004. His main research interests are virus-resistant transgenic plants,
with a particular focus on the biosafety issues they raise.
He has coordinated several EC-funded research projects, was responsible
for organizing the 8th International Symposium on the Biosafety of GMOs (2004),
and is founding Editor-in-Chief of Environmental Biosafety Research (EBR).
